Water Reform
We need to fundamentally change our approach to our water system, and remove the incentives that drive us to waste water even as we’re running out. We can no longer afford to be careless with catastrophe.
- Re-introduce pricing into our water system. This will allow price signals to tell us when to conserve and when to use, while maintaining the cash flow to pay our debts.
- Eliminate water usage exemptions. When we are under severe restrictions, it’s about survival of our water supply, not whether or not our sports teams can compete.
- Establish transparency in our water billing system. This is a public system, the public has the right to know who is using water and how it is being used.
- Establish our supply link to Jordan as quickly as possible. Jordan is not a long-term solution, but it’s all we have right now.
- Work with the state to update plumbing codes to loosen restrictions on water-saving technologies such as graywater systems and rainwater catchment systems.
